My experience of childhood blindness due to glaucoma and cataracts fueled my desire to explain eye therapy. Being rushed into surgery at six weeks old, facing a fifty-fifty chance of losing my sight, instilled in me a determination to make a difference in the care of people with similar problems. him. In pursuit of expertise in ophthalmology, my journey leads to a commitment to change new treatments, access and care. Within 11 days, dangerous enlargement of my left eye proved permanent blindness and required immediate surgical intervention. The balance between vision and darkness makes my determination to prevent others from facing such a struggle. My main message revolves around: breaking down the isolation and misconceptions associated with visible disability. With passion, I focus on providing high-quality treatments that improve vision recovery and transformation processes. Beyond clinical practice, I hope to foster an environment where individuals feel empowered, understood and ready to navigate the world with confidence. My goal is to continue to the hospital. I strive to work with communities to promote inclusive practices and fair access to eye care services, promote compassion and break down barriers. My journey inspires me to provide expertise and compassion, where visual suffering makes things new, compassion overcomes obstacles, and individuals thrive without obstacles.
I was born with a connective tissue disorder that affects the development of my lower limbs. Surgery is the right thing to do, but the risks are significant. It took three years, four surgeries and months of physical therapy, but in the end, my process was successful. While recuperating at Boston Children’s Hospital, I met many children who inspired me to make their determination against insurmountable odds. So I joined The Seeing Eye Project and started breeding and training guide dogs for the blind. Giving back to this community helped me discover what I was passionate about and set me on the path to law school. I decided to become a disability advocate and spend my life supporting the most vulnerable among us. By taking advantage of the opportunity for continuing education, I will be able to aggressively pursue my ultimate goal of advocating for ADA legislation. In particular, I want to promote new initiatives using the power of AI to increase the freedom of daily life, as well as job opportunities, government programs, and the availability of mass transportation across the country. Today, I think we are in danger of breaking down barriers to disability that have stood for centuries. I want to lead the charge.
As a teenager, I was diagnosed with severe hearing loss in the right ear and mild tinnitus in the left ear, resulting in a §504 classification for support. Over the years I have overcome some challenges using coping techniques like lip reading. Other challenges have emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks caused noise, making it difficult to understand people. Masks made lip reading impossible. Despite the challenges, I tried my best to continue studying during the illness. Because of experience, I realized that not all people are satisfied in everyday life. Currently studying industrial design at university, my goal is to look at product design through the lens of opportunity to support countless people and make their daily lives easier. Product design solutions such as closed-loop glasses that allow deaf people to “see” real-life conversations can be confusing. The solution can be as simple as a clear lip reading mask. Despite the complexity, all these creations can help many people. As a creative designer, I am passionate about making a difference in society.
