I did everything; He played varsity football, ran track, competed against his peers in speech and debate clubs to name a few, and had many hours of community service. After all, I am the leader. I was born to change my community and beyond. There are few people like me in my community. In high school, I wanted to influence my peers. Not just African Americans, but everyone. In high school, I started the Black Student Union. As president, I got the support of my colleagues and administrators. I have led this organization with great determination. The mayor noticed this and asked me to curate and exhibit in his city a series called “The Black Experience”. Along with others at school and in my community, I shared a piece of black history through social media in February. It worked and I received a proclamation from the city for my page. Because of my contributions, I was recommended to join the Principal’s Student Advisory Board, where I made a positive difference. As a mechanical engineering major, I will draw attention to the Howard University campus. I am the former Father West Regional Youth President of Jack and Jill of America. A national organization that shapes the future of African-American children, it leads through philanthropic giving, volunteerism and civic duty. Membership in regional and national youth committees has shown me that I can positively reach all teenagers in the Far West region and nationally. During the 2021-2022 FWR Teen Leadership Conference, I showed the teenagers of Far West that as a strong group we can make a difference in our community and beyond. I attended the National Jack and Jill on the Hill Legislative Summit in Washington DC where I met California legislators and congressional staff and shared the importance of unity and voting rights. I even had the opportunity to meet and speak with attorney Ben Crump. As a result of this national event, I was recognized by the California State Senate, State Senators, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. My motivation, my impact on the future and my legacy depend on what I contribute to change in my community. I look forward to the day when I can create a scholarship in my name to give back to future leaders. “It’s one teach one” is the motto I live by. I can do anything and I know it’s never too early to start thinking, planning and giving back.

Meet The 2021 Rosa Parks Scholars

As a Youth Ambassador for 10 years, I have dedicated more than 600 hours of community service to the community with special needs, which I continuously serve. Through volunteering, I learned that people with disabilities are neglected, overlooked, and unheard in our black and brown communities. I made a difference in my community by talking about how families are affected when a child or sibling is diagnosed with a disability. I spoke about health, awareness and the importance of providing wealth for our families. In order to continue this, in the future I plan to continue my education and start a non-profit organization that helps individuals and families with special needs.
