How To Find Scholarships For First-generation Students In Atlanta

How To Find Scholarships For First-generation Students In Atlanta – Academic Programs and Financial Aid Updated April 22, 2021 (1) Atlanta Technical College offers several types of federal aid called Title IV aid. These programs include: Federal Bridge Grants, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants, Federal Work Study, and Federal Direct Loans. To receive federal aid, students must be enrolled in an eligible Title IV program and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students who demonstrate financial need, are enrolled in an eligible Title IV program, and have not completed a degree may be eligible for this grant. Eligibility is determined based on Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is calculated using the information provided by the student/parent on the FAFSA. The amount of the bridge grant is $6,345 per academic year beginning in fall 2020.

Federal financial aid is not available to individuals who have completed their degree or are in debt to repay a federal federal grant, or any Title IV financial aid program, or who are in default on a federal Stafford, SLS, or PLUS loan.

2019 Georgia Higher Education Data Book

Students may only receive federal financial aid for the equivalent of twelve (12) semesters of full-time enrollment at each institution. This applies to all students who have previously received a federal Pell grant.

Full-time enrollment is not required to receive a Pell grant. Pell funds are initially awarded based on full-time enrollment status, but can be adjusted to pay a lower amount based on the student’s current enrollment. Students taking 12 credit hours or more are considered full-time and receive 100% of the quarterly scholarship. Credit hours 9-11 are considered ¾ time and carry 75% of the course award. 6 to 8 credit hours is considered half time and receives 50% and 5 credit hours is less than ½ time and receives 25% of the semester award.

The U.S. Department of Education requires that Pell Grant payments be made based on the hours a student attends—not just the hours (credits) in which the student is enrolled.

Some ATC programs/courses offer courses that do not last a full semester. Course 1 can last 3 weeks, then the student starts with course 2, then course 3, and so on. (all during one semester). * A Pell grant is paid when attendance begins in a course, although a student may enroll in all courses at the beginning of the semester. Student money is paid in installments. *At the end of the semester, the student will receive 100% of their Pell Grant eligibility for that semester.

A student who never begins to participate in a course will be refunded the tuition and fees for that course(s). In addition, any financial aid awarded or paid for the course(s) will also be cancelled.

Students who demonstrate severe financial need may be eligible for FSEOG. This federal scholarship is awarded based on the student’s EFC and funding availability.

*Only Pell Grant eligible students can receive this grant. This fund is very limited and not all eligible students may receive funding.

Pell recalculation involves setting a date for each semester at which the student’s enrollment status for the semester is locked in order to determine the Pell for the semester. Atlanta Technical College sets the Pell recalculation date for the day after the 5th
