Local Scholarship Opportunities For High School Seniors In Denver – The Montrose Community Foundation (MCF) helps fund the future of Montrose County students.   In 2024, the total amount of scholarships provided exceeds 725 thousand dollars. Click on the tabs below for information on each scholarship. MCF helped manage more than $100,000 in grants for the Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA). DMEA offers scholarships to local students every year. Funding will be provided through DMEA’s non-eligible capital loan fund.

Scholarships are available for students of Delta, Montrose, Cedaredge, Olathe, North Fork high schools, as well as non-traditional schools. Scholarships are also available for students in education and those enrolled at Rocky College of Technology, Hotline School, and the University of Colorado Mesa-Montrose Campus.

Gray Scholarship pays tuition, books, room, and board for 4 years of college or university education to RE1J students.

Ken and Marlene Townsend and their family grew up in Montrose. They are deeply concerned about the future of Montrose and the community, and established a scholarship program to encourage Montrose youth to succeed in the years to come by helping Montrose high school students achieve their educational goals. they have a four-year university or college.

This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has achieved academic results, contributed to society through community service, participated in extracurricular activities, and demonstrated leadership and dedication.

In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria, this scholarship is awarded to an exemplary student with interest in education, love for their community, and financial need. Top candidates will be interviewed by the Townsend family and scholarship review committee. Interview and general impression will also have a big impact on the final candidate selection.

The Gilberts moved to Montrose in the early 1970s. Education is important for them. Carla is a home economics graduate of what is now Southern Utah State University in Cedar City, Utah, and an undergraduate student of Utah State University in Logan. Carl was a Colorado Aggies, now Colorado State University graduate forest. Ruth earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Adams State University and a degree in library science from the University of Denver.

Carla began her teaching career in Montrose County Schools in 1972, which was the next 32 years. After the closing of Sanborn Park School, the last of the district’s one-room schools, in the summer of 1977, Johnson continued to teach in the first grade, primarily at Riverside-Uncompahgre and Pomona schools. . Reading is his passion, and his motto is “If children can read, they can do anything.” Carla has been recognized for teaching excellence by the Montrose Rotary Club, the Altrusa Club and the Masonic Lodge. In 2003, he was nominated for Montrose County Teacher of the Year.

Carl has worked in many national parks and was the general manager of Black Canyon National Monument, Kurekanti National Recreation Area and the Colorado National Monument cluster when the Gilbert family moved to Montrose. He and Ruth were righteous; They participate in church activities, serve on community boards, and participate in various organizations such as Rotary, Community Concert Series, Knife and Fork Club, Rose Club, Club 20, and others.

Ruth supported everything Karl did. As a homemaker, Ruth also participated in the Cliolian Club, the Club Extension Club, and several knitting and Bible study groups. The beauty of nature is very important to the family, because Carl is in the forest and lives and works in many national parks. A variety of arts and crafts are also enjoyed, leading to retirement hobbies such as woodworking, embroidery and sewing, gardening, and nature crafts.

This scholarship program was established by the Gilbert family to encourage a deserving student who values ​​education and intends to succeed in education or the field of natural resources and, more importantly, in life . Recipients are selected based on past academic record, extracurricular participation, and potential for future academic success as assessed by application and application.

One or more $2,500 scholarships are awarded each year to prospective farmers seeking higher education in agriculture.

The Colorado Water Workers Association created this scholarship to provide financial assistance to an individual pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Water Resources, Civil or Agricultural Engineering, or Agricultural Research.  The scholarship committee may decide to award this scholarship to an individual or to split the award between two qualified applicants.  Eligibility of individual applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance and evaluation of their ability to succeed in a field related to water resources.

Roy and Louis Fausson were pioneers. His parents, Louis and Theresa Fausson, immigrated to America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The six Fausson sisters immigrated to the United States from Montlanghe, Italy.

When they arrived in Montrose, for a time the “six” farmed near the east end of town on Highway 50, near the present Montrose Waterworks on Miguel Street, then known as Fair View. The last of these farms was owned since 1946 by Louis F. “Babe” Faussone, born in Montrose in 1923. World War II, most of Japan was occupied. His brother Roy B. (1917-2011), also an Army veteran, spent 64 years growing crops and vegetables after serving in the military in World War II.  They are especially famous for growing potatoes, which supply the needs of many urban restaurants.

Babe graduated from Montrose High School and soon joined the United States Army in World War II.  His experience in Japan made him fascinated by other cultures.  Always a reader, he turned to recorded books in later life. He “read” about 200 books a year for ten years. This is an experience
