Scholarships For African American Students Interested In Stem In Seattle – ATLANTA – August 07, 2024 – is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 FIRST® Scholarship Program, which recognizes students who are committed to pursuing careers in STEM (including science, technology, engineering and mathematics). In collaboration with the non-profit organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology), this scholarship program has demonstrated its commitment to developing a new generation of leaders and innovators in the supply chain and logistics industry.
This year’s students, Aman Amjad of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and Lily Hoopes of Bonney Lake, Washington, received $5,000 toward their post-secondary education or technical certification. Blake Bollow, Noelle Bryan, Casey Bushey, Allie Cadenhead, Rafael Calderon, Adriana Cruz, Jason Elisei, Bill Giang, Hendrik Sorensen and Adam Thai were also awarded $1,000 scholarships.

Setting Up Incoming High School Students For Success
Now in its fourth year, the FIRST scholarship program has received applications from students in 28 states, Washington, DC and Canada. Officials evaluate all applications, selecting honorees based on their academic standing and future achievements in STEM. The program requires applicants to submit their transcripts, a sidebar discussing the future of humans and machines interacting in the warehouse, and a letter of recommendation. In addition, they must have previously participated in a FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Tech Challenge.

Staff actively contribute to FIRST teams by providing guidance and direction to students to support their growth. Last year, FIRST sponsored 18 organizations and awarded $68,000 to support students as they prepare for STEM careers and competitions. Since 2008, it has supported teams participating in the first robotics competitions and invested more than $310,000 in local organizations, events and student grants, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of STEM workers.
