“We are pleased to offer the new scholarship as part of our financial aid package as we work with students to reduce out-of-pocket costs,” said Cabarrus College President Dr. Cam Cruickshank.
In recent years, college has seen a growing trend of students looking to change career paths to nursing. These students are in business, education, engineering, psychology etc. from a variety of professions who share a desire to use their skills and knowledge to improve health outcomes for individuals and populations.
Earning a second degree can offer many rewards and opportunities, but it also shows how to pay for it. The cost of higher education is rising, and financial aid options for undergraduate students are limited. Federal and state aid, such as grants and loans, are often limited or unavailable to undergraduate students. Scholarships and grants from other sources are rare and competitive.

This means that most postgraduate students must rely on savings, family support or personal loans to pay for their education. This will put heavy financial burden and stress on the students and their families. This may prevent some students from pursuing their dreams of becoming a healthcare professional.
“This scholarship is a way to invest in the future of health care and society. It is not only a financial aid, but also a source of inspiration, motivation and opportunity for sophomores,” said Cruickshank.
The ABSN program is designed to be flexible, rigorous and relevant to undergraduate students. It offers hybrid options and can be completed in four semesters. Beginning in the first semester, students gain clinical experience that allows them to immediately apply concepts learned in the classroom. The program allows for interprofessional collaboration within the Atrium Health Hospital campus.
Clinical practice is carried out in various inpatient and outpatient facilities. Supervised clinical practice begins early in the program and allows students to work with clinical faculty and nurses to provide quality patient care. The final semester includes a practical experience that allows students to work with a nurse to manage the care of a group of patients.
