In 2019, MSU Denver joined 349 higher education institutions as part of NASPA’s First Scholars Network – now FirstGen Forward – to promote the success of first-generation students. FirstGen Forward provides a national model to expand the success of first-generation students by engaging and empowering institutions of higher education to transform the experience of first-generation students, improve academic and academic outcomes, and build infrastructure. job. In addition, in 2023, MSU Denver joined 22 institutions honored for their commitment to improving student achievement on NASPA’s first academic list.

Cristóbal (Chris) Garcia has joined C2Hub as the first production planning lead. A first-generation college graduate, Chris will lead the Early Scholar Education Committee and implement initiatives to help first-generation students find community and succeed at MSU Denver.

Kolby Bautista Lopez has joined the First Initiatives team as a Student Services Specialist. Kolby is a first-generation student from Denver, Colorado majoring in mathematics with an emphasis in secondary education at MSU Denver. It will support efforts to engage students in industry projects.

As MSU Denver works to create a community that supports first-generation students, a committee on first-generation education has been established to help address this need. Composed of students, faculty and staff, the Career Committee acts as a support in their field, creates “career” plans and engages students in activities that help us reach our goals.

There are many opportunities to help first-generation students have a successful college experience. We are here to give you the tools you need to take advantage of these opportunities, do well in the classroom, apply to college, succeed when you arrive on campus, and graduate on time.

The academy offers incoming first-year students, the first generation starting in the fall semester, the opportunity to enroll in four credit hours during the summer.

We provide comprehensive support, access to opportunities, and financial stability to help first-generation and diverse students on their way to graduate school. Students can find different scholarships below. Each scholarship fund has a different purpose and supports different methods for different people. 

Denver Foundation Community Scholarship The Denver Community Scholarship was established to support first-generation college students of color pursuing a post-secondary education.  Learn More Scholarship Level: $5,000 Status: Closed

Scholarships For Black College Students

Reisher Scholars Program The Reisher Scholars Program is open to graduate students currently attending one of the partner institutions or transfer students from community colleges to the partner institutions as juniors. Learn More Scholarship Level: $4,000 – $15,000 Status: Open

Alexander Brown Memorial Scholarship The Alexander Brown Memorial Scholarship is open to serious organ collectors who wish to better themselves through higher education. Learn More Scholarship Level: Minimum Award $1,000 Status: Closed
