Scholarships For Women In Engineering Programs In Dallas, Texas – Dallas SWE is excited to award scholarships to seven outstanding high school students from the Dallas area: Akansha Subbarao, Quinkie Cobb, Allison Johansson, Asheni Agrawal, Ashi Sharma, Lauren Guillory, Margaret Bryant, and Julie John. Applicants were evaluated based on need, academics, involvement with school and community, and plans to become an engineer. Akanksha Subbarao plans to attend Stanford University and major in mechanical engineering. Akansha Kappel is the High School SWE Next Chapter President who was instrumental in re-establishing the chapter post-COVID-19 to support the SWENext Chapter, is an engineer at Dallas SWE, Texas A&M SWE, and University of Michigan SWE I. they have organized a discussion. She started the “Little Sisters” program with “Ladies in Tech” at the University of Texas at Dallas and organized several competitions for club members. Personally, Akanksha spent the last three years as a researcher at the University of Texas at Arlington, focusing on brainwave research. He is also a fellow at the New York Institute for Biomedical Innovation and his team won first place in the BMES Medtronic Student Design Competition (2023). In addition to SWENext, a project dedicated to reinventing contemporary fiction, Akansha Kappel is also the expressive band and drum leader for Notelove DFW and the Red Jacket Student Ambassador program. Akanksha is an avid volunteer and contributes to the community through Kappel Library, Kappel Assistant and VIBHA Dallas. Its ultimate goal is to specialize in prosthetics that combine the complexity of the human body with the automatic processes of machines.

Quincy Cobb plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in aerospace engineering. She was the captain of the Quincy varsity cross country team and is the Quincy Girl Scout Juliet Ambassador for the varsity softball team and has won Gold and Silver Awards. Her involvement with Girl Scouts has allowed her to attend the National Convention in Florida, the World Girl Guide Association and the Girl Scout Center in India, Space Camp and Biomedical Engineering Camp. Quincy was also a NASA High School Aerospace Scholar through the Johnson Space Center and a Congressional STEM Scholar for Congressman Colin Allred. Quinkie is a high-ranking AP Scholar and all-district and all-state academic athlete in cross country and softball. In the future, Quincy hopes to combine her two interests, engineering and space exploration, to be a role model for little girls and make a difference in the future of space.

Alison Johansson plans to attend Brigham Young University and major in computer science. Alison is a leading candidate for Chair of the UIL Academic Group’s Current Affairs, Maths, Science Group and Computer Science Group. Alison won two awards in this competition Alison is also the founder and president of the Fernie High School Robotics Club. With an outstanding academic background, Allison has been named a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist and AP Merit Scholar distinction. Alison loves IT and has taught herself several languages ​​including Java, ReactJS, JavaScript, CSS, HTML and Python. To further her IT expertise, Alison interned at Scootpad, an adaptive online learning platform, where her efforts improved the look and functionality of the website. Alison has always loved computing and was excited to be able to code something on a computer and work with a real product.

Asheni Agrawal plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in computer science. Asheni was a student-athlete throughout high school and plans to study computer science in college. She is the president of the Girl Who Codes Club, which hosts several workshops to engage middle school girls with STEM-related ideas. She is a member of the Asheni district SWENext chapter where she organized panel discussions for members and was the main organizer of the first annual SWENext summer camp for middle school students. Asheni interned at Citibank and attended the Georgia Tech Data Science Program and the RISE Summer Research Program at the University of Maryland. At school, Asheni participates in the National Honor Society, Chess Club, Art Club, and Red Cross Club. She is a National Center for Women in Information Technology Regional Honoree and a regionally ranked gymnast. In the future, I would like to further my career in computer science, delving into artificial intelligence and overcoming gender gaps in STEM.

Ashi Sharma plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in computer science. Ashi is a UI/UX Fellow at MIT ADT University and has developed a unique mobile app that connects and drives business between mobile shoppers around the world and women artists in India, bridging the craft opportunity gap that I helped with. In addition, it was ranked 2nd nationally in the SQL Database Foundation event for business professionals in the United States. As Director of Outreach for the All Foundation for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Ashi works on business and outreach at FTC Robotics, educating the community on concepts like AI and facilitating hackathons. Aspiring to win statewide awards for social benefit and the FTC, Ashi attended the UT Computer Science Academy, participated in a scholarship-based Web development program with Closie, and is currently doing a research internship at UT Dallas with my Linux skills. In school, Ashi was in Bollywood Dance Club, Computer Club, Science National Honor Society and University Choir. In the future, I would like to solve global problems in fields such as AI/machine learning and data science.

Lauren Guillory plans to attend the University of North Texas and major in mechanical engineering. She is active in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Sachs High School Black Student Association, and currently serves as Key Club webmaster and Beta Club supervisor. Through this role, she has developed strong leadership skills and contributed to her school and community through volunteer work. Lauren is a National African American Recognition Program and 21st Century Scholar. She has deepened her interest in technology by participating in NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars Program, UNT Jennifer Camp, UT’s Computer Science Academy for All, and enrolling in a STEM-led video game programming course. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys tutoring students in STEM subjects and volunteering at her church. Eager to understand how things work and solve problems, he wants to start his career in mechanical engineering.

Margaret Bryant plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering. Margaret is a graduate of the International Baccalaureate and has completed several independent research and community service projects. Margaret is the president of the National Honor Society and has twice captained the academic decathlon team, placing first in her division three years in a row. He is a member of the school orchestra and plays the viola. Margaret has earned Silver and Bronze lifetime awards as a Girl Scout and participates as a program assistant at a local summer camp. He is also a National Merit Finalist and has received PSAT and AP honors. To further develop her interest in aerospace engineering, Margaret participated in NASA’s High School Aerospace Scholars Program and participated in a moonshot competition. Margaret hopes to combine her creativity and problem-solving skills with a future career in engineering to solve problems in her community.

Julie John plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in biomedical engineering. Julie is a National Merit Scholar and AP Distinguished Scholar. As a member of the school orchestra, Julie not only honed her musical talent, but also served on the school orchestra committee and actively led the group with enthusiasm and determination. Julie’s commitment to service and leadership earned her the President’s Volunteer Achievement Award as the National Honor Society and Director of Finance and Administration for Project Stitch Up. As the founder and captain of the Plano West Student Volunteer Union, Julie led the organization to deliver more than 1,500 meals to the North Texas Food Bank. Julie’s future goals are to obtain a degree in biomedical engineering and use her skills and experience to develop effective healthcare technology.

The Dallas Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Annie Colacho Scholarship for local college students. This scholarship is named after Annie Colacho (1899-1991), grandmother of SWE Life Member Nandika D’Souza. Annie Colacho’s selfless service and lifelong learning are reflected in SWE’s mission.
