Women with backgrounds in computer engineering, nuclear science and software development are not allowed to take on the challenge of financing their dreams. Additionally, the Society of Women Engineers found that gender gaps are especially pronounced in engineering and computer science, where only 20 percent of bachelor’s degrees in engineering and computer science are held by women.

Miki Mura has an extensive background in petroleum engineering. She built her career in Japan as a reservoir and geomechanical engineer and geologist and now hopes to gain a global perspective through her PhD. in the United States

Miki has seen many of her senior colleagues become experts in the energy sector by attending schools close to their areas of work. She hopes her studies in Texas, the center of the oil and gas industry, will make her “a researcher who can make a difference on the world stage and solve environmental problems.”
In the long term, Miki hopes to use her achievements to pave the way for more women to enter STEM fields, writing: “When I recruit graduates for technical and scientific positions… I try to focus on female graduates. But others don’t allow it because I don’t have enough power. That’s why I want to be a good role model for female students and encourage them to choose STEM careers and create more opportunities.
Miki is a Ph.D. student in petroleum engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. “My research will ensure women are committed to solving the biggest challenges facing our society. I hope to inspire other international female students in STEM fields to take the next big step in their careers!”
Alli Abosede Sarah investigates how air pollution affects the respiratory health of vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children and the elderly. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree, she learned about the health burden caused by severe air pollution in Nigeria. Her PhD research examined how air pollution in Ghana contributes to respiratory disease, obesity and high blood pressure.

After Ali completes her studies, she plans to work as a professor in Nigeria. She hopes to expand the scientific literature available in the community and “provide high-quality data to support environmental policy and locally relevant interventions to reduce exposure to air pollution.”
Ali is a Ph.D. student in environmental health sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. “This grant will provide financial support for my doctoral research as I work to assess the health impacts of air pollution in Africa to influence environmental policy. As an international student, the MPOWER Scholarship inspires me to continue mentoring women with similar backgrounds, to promote diversity in STEM fields.
Bristi is committed to leveraging new systems and technologies to solve social problems. She helped build a nanoparticle-based system to protect marine ecology from oil spills, designed learning tools to assist visually impaired students, and consulted on the end-to-end development of technology products.
She hopes to use her education to bridge the gap between research and business development for mid-market startups. She is pursuing this strategy “to optimize the delivery of technology because I believe science done right can do wonders for the world.”

The scholarship is awarded annually to a female international/DACA student who is currently enrolled or currently enrolled in a full-time STEM degree program in an MPOWER-eligible international study program in the United States or Canada.
We created this scholarship specifically for international students and DACA students. Therefore, US citizens who wish to study in the United States and Canadian citizens who wish to study in Canada are not eligible for this scholarship.
We define this term broadly to include any program leading to a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree at an MPOWER partner university. In any field of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. This includes any branch of biology, chemistry, physics, geology, natural sciences, agricultural sciences, computer science, data science, engineering or applied or theoretical mathematics. This does not include medical or nursing programs, although we expect to launch a separate nursing fellowship competition soon. Use this list to get a more complete list of the types of courses we consider STEM. However, because it is difficult to develop a comprehensive list of this rapidly changing field, please note that MPOWER may include other degree programs not included on this list if the program has a clear connection to the science , technology or technical fields. or mathematics.

To ease the burden on applicants, we only require that you submit a copy of your transcript (or admission letter) and proof of your citizenship, gender, and immigration status (i.e. passport and visa) after you are initially selected.

Bridge Housing Scholarship Program
After MPOWER selects a winner, MPOWER will verify their eligibility. After such verification, all winners will receive a press release. Once MPOWER has received the winner’s signed consent, MPOWER will make the payment directly to the winner’s college/university as required by applicable U.S. or Canadian law. If a winner cannot be verified, or fails or refuses to complete a release, that individual will be ineligible for the award and MPOWER will select an alternate winner.

Kla Foundation Announces Education Equity Fund Grants Totaling $1 Million
This grant is sponsored by MPOWER Financing (“MPOWER”), Public Benefit Corporation, 1101 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20036.
The grant ends on December 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Only entries submitted and received during the fair period will be eligible. MPOWER serves as both the official timekeeper and the final arbiter of scholarship eligibility. Three (3) scholarship recipients will be selected during the scholarship period. The first place winner will receive a $6,000 MPOWER Scholarship which may be used for tuition, fees or expenses at the winner’s school (each a “Prize”). Two additional winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship and a $1,000 scholarship. Students (“participants”) can apply for the grant once.
