Stem Scholarships For Minority Students In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Philadelphia Education Foundation provides significant support to the Philadelphia STEM Community (PSEC) in its mission to increase the number of Blacks, Latinos, and women entering STEM fields by 2030. PSEC operates through active teams focused on home, community, and K-12 education. Twelfth grade, post-secondary education, and work environments. PSEC also works with out-of-school time providers, higher education institutions, employers, local government and charities. PSEC is dedicated to closing gaps and increasing opportunities for underserved students in STEM fields.
Philadelphia High School For Girls
The Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective (PSEC) partners with the School District of Philadelphia by identifying 20 high-achieving schools in the School District of Philadelphia to provide STEM classroom materials. These materials include scientific equipment such as microscopes, thermometers, and heaters, as well as production tools, raw materials, and technology resources.
The summer program introduces students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at the college level. In collaboration with the Wistar Institute, students attend lectures twice a week and participate in Wistar laboratory exercises once a week according to a curriculum coordinated with first-year biology and chemistry courses.
FirstHand is a free science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program offered by the University City Science Center aimed at reaching middle and high school students. In 2024, the FirstHand High School program will offer students the opportunity to visit a dedicated FirstHand laboratory for two hours per week during the school year. FirstHand also offers students the Sprint Module Program, a series of free, industry-focused programs designed to provide students with hands-on experience led by industry experts.
The Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences’ Women in the Natural Sciences (WINS) III program provides ongoing support to WINS graduates at their four-year college. WINS III expands program data-driven mentoring and support to graduates of university-bound programs to enhance their educational experiences, build resilience and resiliency in new environments, and better prepare them to pursue STEM careers after graduation. Students are also provided with scholarships during their participation in the program.
Provide Stem Education Through Robotics
Wistar’s Biomedical Technician Training (BTT) program curriculum teaches students technical skills that apply to real-world research problems. Students from underrepresented communities can earn a degree and enter the life sciences workforce after completing the program.
The College of Physicians’ STEM Internship Program begins with an intensive 4-week summer program for high school students affected by community violence in Philadelphia. Through a variety of educational programs, trainees learn about the effects of violence on themselves and their communities, while also learning about the effects of violence on themselves and their communities. Understanding STEM and STEM disciplines. Students are also provided with scholarships during their participation in the program.
STEM Pathways of Hope summer camp offers Latino and minority youth in grades 10-12 in Philadelphia STEM activities, including basic scientific research skills and principles. Lessons build skills, concepts, and vocabulary step by step. Students collaborate to interact and present what they have learned. Students participating in the program have the opportunity to enroll in college-level health sciences courses and earn credit while in high school.
The Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research (PSBR) offers the Science and Research Mentor (SPARC) program to address biomedical disparities among K-5 students. SPARC offers free, mobile education for biomedical sciences based on interactive and career-based learning. Through SPARC, students continue to learn about real-world concepts and receive career guidance in the life sciences through hands-on science education and awareness of STEM careers.

The BioEYES Project is a one-week, hands-on science project that brings live zebrafish into the classroom. Students participate in mating fish, then raise the resulting embryos until they become clean, free-swimming larvae, whose heartbeats are observed under a microscope. The program offers a curriculum focused on cell biology, genetics, and the scientific method to 2nd, 4/5th, 7/8th grade, and high school students.
The Young Men and Women with Responsibility (YMWIC) program provides K-12 students with leadership development, academic support, college preparation, and career exposure through after-school and summer programs. Originally serving seven suburban Philadelphia communities, the YWCA has expanded its outreach to include two Philadelphia communities (Furness High School and Martin Luther King Jr. High School). YMWIC also works with corporate partners to provide employment and internship opportunities, exposing students to a variety of STEM careers.
The “hands-on, smart” STEM challenges students face in robotics programs help them develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Their experience working together as a team also helps them learn important skills such as cooperation and trust. Giving Philadelphia students the opportunity to engage in robotics builds important skills and experiences to increase their interest and success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses and future careers. STEAM Ahead’s complete after-school curriculum includes inquiry-based programming in elementary school, career and skills development in middle school, and a middle school targeting Black and Latino youth in historically underserved communities in Philadelphia. . This project-based learning model helps young people envision and develop their career paths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM) fields. Programming highlights the Citizen Scientist theme focusing on environmental science and urban agriculture.

10 out-of-school Black and Latino young men and women between the ages of 18 and 24 will receive training in repair and restoration of the greens. The Egyptian Chefs Association has developed methods and materials to assist those who need a strong academic background in reading, mathematics or science. Attendees will learn what it takes for entry-level jobs in demolition and demolition, green residential construction, and weatherization. Those who successfully complete the program will be nationally certified and will be eligible for ECA’s Apprentice Training Program for Federally Registered Upgrade Installation Technicians.
The Cadi2Code program provides the training, support, representation, and incentives needed to support more young women of color interested in STEM and coding. OICA believes that STEM education, if applied correctly, can address many of the disadvantages found in other career fields and provide participants with realistic and sustainable living wages. Programming was chosen because it is a field that has a growing number of jobs, can be learned without a college degree, and requires skills that many young people can understand and learn.

This mission is made easier by focusing on scholarships and grants that apply to shorter, more focused educational paths.

Next, it’s time to focus on scholarship opportunities at Penn State. After filling out the federal form, or FAFSA, you must fill out a similar financial aid form in Pennsylvania, the PA State Scholarship Form. We’ll go into more detail about this program below, but keep in mind that the state form is a requirement for many need-based grants and scholarships.
We’ve divided our list into two sections, one for scholarships and grants run by Penn State, and the other for aid opportunities run by community or business groups.
Gsk Stem Equity
Pennsylvania residents who have completed high school but have not earned a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for this scholarship program. Funds may be used for tuition and fees at two- or four-year in-state post-secondary schools, subject to approval by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Programs outside Pennsylvania will be considered if they meet certain criteria. Minimum and maximum registration requirements apply. Learn more about the PA State Scholarship Program.
Students who receive a PA State Scholarship and are nominated by a participating PATH partner may apply for this program, which may provide additional scholarship funding. Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited Pennsylvania institution of higher education. Learn more about the PA PATH program.
