Top Stem Scholarships For High School Seniors In Portland, Oregon – Kim Fan, a 4.0 student, wants to be a nurse and patient advocate. She participated in college prep programs such as Trio, College Possible, and Matriculation to ensure she was prepared for college success. School activities include HOSA (an organization for leadership students who want to pursue careers in health care), Kumon Teacher and Class, school newspaper (Opinion Editor), and National Honor Society. She volunteers at Habitat for Humanity, National Honor Society, Adventist Health Clinic, and the DDHS Food Pantry.
Kenzie performed at Portland Community College this spring, taking two classes and getting A’s in both! She plans to continue her studies at PCC, possibly as a Veterinary Technician, but is open to many possibilities. He is also a PCC Futures Link Scholar. His school activities emphasize this dream; he helped tutor others throughout high school; she is a middle school teacher intern teaching advanced general science to new students this year. She also volunteers at Gilbert Park as an after-school assistant for the SUN program. Other activities include Team Leader, Student Council, STEM Club (Communication Leader), Stagecraft, College Prep Program, Rise to Teach Sabreena hopes to attend Portland Community College, Portland State University or the University of the Pacific.

Brenda is an amazing young woman and a great example of what hard work, perseverance and energy can produce. Brenda arrived on campus 3 years ago as an English student, new to the country and with no high school credits. Since then, she has worked to become fluent in English, earned a 3.87 GPA, ranked in the top 15% of her class, met graduation requirements, and graduated this June.Brenda doubled up on her core classes and took two math classes. , two English classes, two science classes, and two social studies classes while taking after-school classes this senior year. He did all this while working part-time at a rehabilitation clinic. Brenda will attend Portland Community College and study nursing.
Thank you so much for awarding me the Ralph Howlett Music Scholarship last week. This scholarship will help me get through my college experience by providing some financial assistance. Currently, I plan to study Biology at the University of San Francisco, majoring in Biotechnology. I am excited to see where my educational journey will take me and how this scholarship will help me throughout my first year. Win Chen, our 2018 Howlett Scholarship winner, gives us an update on his first year at college in 2019. He studied at Cornell University in New York in 2018-2019. Here is his message:
“Right now, I’m majoring in nutrition science with a diet registry and minoring in computer science. Happy to finish the year with a 3.9 GPA! Your grant-funded computer was a lifesaver. There are days when it’s minus 30, it’s snowing heavily, and luckily you don’t have to walk to the library. You can pull out your notebook between classes, so you can be more productive even when it’s pocket-sized.
“…I am so excited to continue playing the trombone as a member of the Big Red Marching Band and the Cornell University Wind Symphony! As you all know, bands were a big part of my high school life and I was lucky enough to continue playing music in college. I love movie nights, video game nights, and community parties organized by both groups. It gave me a community to rely on outside of my home.
“…I can’t believe my first year of college is over! I will admit that midterms were pretty low, finals week was definitely not fun, and being away from home was tough, but I think I grew a lot this first year. I am looking forward to the next three years making new friends, participating in research, studying abroad somewhere in Europe, and my junior/senior year. Thank you again for helping me financially so that I can succeed academically and have the best Cornell experience possible!”
