Undergraduate Scholarships For African American Students In Chicago
NABA’s mission is to pave the way for future black business leaders, NABA awards an average of 150 annual scholarships of $1,000 – $10,000 through generous contributions from individuals, groups and organizations who share NABA’s desire to overcome the economic barriers that students of color often face.

A completed scholarship application will be presented for sponsorship at the 2024 National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 17-21. If awarded the scholarship, students are expected to attend the 2024 National Convention and Expo to receive the scholarship in person. In addition, students sponsored by NABA, Inc. Required to attend all relevant NABA programs as noted.**

According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), black students receive a higher percentage of financial aid than students from other racial/ethnic groups who complete a high school diploma.
You can find scholarships through national and state agencies and individual universities based on merit and/or financial need. Before considering loans or other conditional means of financing your university education you should look for scholarships and grants – which do not have to be repaid.
Scholarships For Black And African American Students
With the rising cost of college, almost all college students need financial assistance to earn a degree. According to NCES, more than 85% of full-time, first-year students received financial aid in 2019-2020.
However, these financial awards are not equally distributed among minority student groups. Black students take out federal loans at higher rates, accumulate more debt, and are more likely to default on their student loans than their white peers.
Scholarships and grants reserved for black and African-American students help offset the cost of a college education and reduce student debt. You can stack scholarships and receive financial aid especially for women, first-generation college students, STEM programs, or seniors in need.
Who’s Eligible: Applicants must be black or African-American high school seniors with US citizenship. or meeting permanent resident requirements. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need, academic excellence, leadership potential, and community service experience.
Delon Hampton & Associates African Americans In Stem Scholarship
Who is Eligible: Applicants must be high school seniors belonging to an underrepresented minority group with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must intend to enroll in an undergraduate program in the semester following high school graduation, specializing in a STEM field.
Who’s Eligible: Applicants must be first-generation high school seniors who belong to an underrepresented minority group. Applicants must be accepted to an accredited four-year university and intend to major in a qualifying subject such as STEM, pre-med or psychology.
Who’s Eligible: Applicants must be high school seniors, first-year college students, or transfer students in their first or second year. Applicants must be US citizens. A history of academic excellence and public service experience and a combined family income of no more than $70,000.
Who’s Eligible: Applicants must identify as Black or African American and be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student at an accredited four-year university. Applicants must declare a major in computer science or computer engineering and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Our Commitment To Diversity And Inclusion
Who’s Eligible: Applicants may be high school seniors or college transfer students who belong to an underrepresented minority group. Applicants must be majoring in transportation engineering or a related field at an accredited four-year university. Preference is given to first-generation college students with greater financial need.
Who is Eligible: Applicants must be enrolled in a historically black college and university (HBCU) program during the academic year in which they are applying for the scholarship. Must maintain minimum 2.7 GPA, possess US citizenship. or permanent residency, and demonstrate financial need and strong leadership potential.
Who is Eligible: Applicants must be US citizens. or permanent residents who are active members of the NBMBAA. Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited graduate-level business program at the time of application. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, as well as demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and community service experience.
Who is Eligible: Applicants must be high school seniors of African descent who plan to attend an accredited four-year university immediately following high school graduation. Applicants must also maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate strong leadership potential, but need financial aid to attend college. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related business field.
Conference Of African American Financial Professionals
Who’s Eligible: Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students based on their family income and personal expenses to complete their desired college program. Applicants must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine their eligibility for funding.
Who’s Eligible: FSEOGs are awarded by colleges and universities to supplement other sources of financial aid already distributed to students who have demonstrated financial need. The FAFSA determines eligibility for the FSEOG program.
Who is Eligible: TEACH provides financial assistance to aspiring teachers completing their education degree on the condition that they fulfill the service obligation after graduation. Applicants must be enrolled in a TEACH-eligible program and complete at least four years of teaching experience at a low-income institution or high-demand subject.
Who’s Eligible: Eligible applicants may exceed family contribution income limits, but must meet the remaining Pell Grant requirements. Awards are given to applicants whose parents or guardians died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11. Applicants must be under 24 years of age or enrolled at least part-time during this period.

Who is Eligible: The Association of Certified International Professional Accountants offers this scholarship to AICPA members who belong to a minority ethnic group. Qualified candidates have a master’s degree or related experience and a CPA license and have been accepted or enrolled in a DBA or Ph.D. program
UNCF represents the largest minority educational institution in the United States, helping to facilitate scholarships, internships, fellowships and international study opportunities for college students. UNCF partners with thousands of universities across the United States. To enable low-moderate-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students to pursue a post-secondary education program.
According to NCES, 88% of black students received scholarships and grants in the 2015-2016 academic year. Notably, black students received Pell Grants at higher rates and private loans at higher rates than any other racial or ethnic group that year.

Some scholarships, such as black scholarships, are funded by partnerships between regional or national organizations such as HBCUs and UNCF, while other HBCUs offer their own scholarships and awards.
