The year is 2042. I have graduated from college and medical school and am taking the final steps to become a surgeon. Finally, I’m on my way to achieving the biggest goal of my life: opening a doctor’s office in my hometown. After I get my medical degree and become a practicing surgeon, I plan to give back to the impoverished communities where I grew up. I grew up relying on faulty insurance for medical care, and many of my friends and family have suffered the same. For some reason I cannot explain, healthcare is exclusive and clearly inaccessible. As a doctor sworn to help others, I will not stand for such differences. I own and operate my own medical practice in my Fort Worth home and accept all insurances and provide affordable treatment. I provide the best medical care to those who cannot access it for a long time. Additionally, I plan to be politically active by leading community movements to enable affordable medicine. Change will take time and effort, but I will do my best to contribute to affordable healthcare. All in all, I have big plans to be a leader in medicine and in my community, and this is just the beginning of changing the world. Although these goals may seem overly ambitious, I am confident that with planning and your help, they can be achieved. I plan to pursue a degree in biochemistry that will lead to a field that continuously moves society forward and solves real-world problems. Studying life at the molecular level expands and challenges my scientific knowledge and prepares me to be a competitive applicant to medical school. I will also study at a research-based university, such as the University of Texas at Austin, where I will learn a variety of life skills that will prepare me for my future studies. Looking back, my internal motivation, schedule, and ultimate goals have allowed me to be successful in many ways as a researcher, and I am confident that developing these skills will see me through the challenging path of medicine. However, this trip will be very difficult financially. Therefore, it is important that I start the process as soon as possible after graduation and pursue as much available funding as possible. By spending my time working 20 hours a week, investing, applying for scholarships and grants, and taking advantage of every opportunity, I follow important financial paths. I know that with scholarships, student loans, and the help of people like you, I will be able to achieve these goals. Overall, I am confident that I will change the world by leading my community toward the future of affordable healthcare. I ask you to believe in my dreams and decide to invest in my future.
