Graduate Scholarships For Women In Technology From San Diego, California – It should come as no surprise that there is a lack of diversity in the US STEM workforce. Women still outnumber men, and black and Latino women are underrepresented compared to Asian and white women. Women with advanced degrees are more likely to secure jobs in STEM fields; however, they remain generally underestimated.
One way to do this is to put your money where your mouth is so they can talk. Many organizations in San Diego County and nationally offer scholarships to women to help close the diversity gap.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the STEM workforce, the diversity gap remains widespread in the United States. Here are some current statistics.
According to recent studies, women make up only about 28% of the workforce in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, even if they studied in these fields at university.(1).
When it comes to undergraduate studies, women are also underrepresented in STEM majors. Only 21% of engineering majors are women, and only 19% of computer and information science majors are women. Of the already small number, only 38% of women who graduated in computer science are currently working in that field, and only 24% of engineering majors are working in that field.(1).
Blacks make up 11% of the total US workforce, but 9% of STEM workers, while Latinos make up 16% of the US workforce, but only 7% of all STEM workers. And among adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher, blacks make up 7% and Latinos about 6% (2)

The diversity gap is particularly large in some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying jobs in the future, such as computer science and engineering, according to AAUW statistics. (1) On average, men in STEM have an annual salary of almost $15. 000 more per year than women ($85,000 compared to $60,828). And Latino and black women in STEM earn less than $33,000 (average of $52,000 per year).
So how do we change this paradigm? One way is to take advantage of available STEM scholarships.
If you’re wondering what a STEM scholarship is, here’s a quick definition. STEM scholarships are financial grants you can use to pay for your STEM degree. If you want to study at university in a science, technology, engineering, computer science, mathematics or related field, you may be eligible to apply.
Institutions, educational institutions and employers provide this money based on financial need or achievement. However, students must demonstrate interest and investment in their field of study and be committed to majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics to receive most of these scholarships. There are also usually minimum GPA requirements.
