Scholarships For Transfer Students From Community Colleges In San Diego – The San Diego Foundation’s Common Scholarship Application offers students more than 100 scholarship opportunities, offering awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 or more. Some scholarships can be renewed for several years to offset the financial burden of the student’s entire undergraduate studies.
Since 1997, the Community Scholarship Program has awarded more than $49 million to more than 13,000 San Diego College students, making it the largest non-college scholarship program in San Diego County.

For every $1,000 in scholarships and grants a student receives, they are 5% more likely to continue their education.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Open Outdoor Access grants to 24 nonprofits that provide equitable access to outdoor activities in San Diego County.

This year’s grant recipients will help address this disparity and increase access to outdoor activities throughout San Diego County.

Kim Klein is internationally known as a consultant, coach and mentor. She has been involved in fundraising for over 40 years and has given seminars in all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. She has a certificate in spiritual leadership and believes that the role of non-profit organizations is, in the words of Peter Maurin, “to create a world where it’s easier to be kind.”
She has just completed the 8th edition of her classic book, Mobilizing for Social Change. This publication, by Stan Yogi, expands on examples of organizations and social movements that show how individual fundraising gives organizations maximum power and autonomy.
She recently retired from teaching at the UC Berkeley School of Social Work and lives in Berkeley with her wife and two cats.
Karen believes in the power of charity, generosity and service. She has built her career around this passion as a major and major gifts representative, vice president, speaker, teacher, consultant and coach, as well as a donor, volunteer and board member.

Karen has held leadership positions at the University for 18 of her 45 years of service, including Director of Major Funds, Director of Development, and Director of College Access. For the past 27 years, Karen has worked for The Osborne Group, a global management, consulting and training firm, first as President and now as Senior Consultant.
Karen enjoys a rich volunteer life. The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awarded her the Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and Public Speaking and the Ashmore Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession. In addition to volunteering for professional associations, she is the board chair for Easterseals Florida and volunteers in the community and at her church.

Since joining the San Diego Foundation as President and CEO in May 2019, SDF has grown its assets to $1.5 billion. Under Mark’s leadership, SDF raised and sent $67 million to the COVID-19 relief effort, including a record $150 million last fiscal year.
During Mark’s tenure, SDF launched a new strategic plan and vision for a just, equitable and resilient community and was named a Best Place to Work by the San Diego Union-Tribune four years in a row.
Prior to joining SDF, Mark led San Diego Zoo Global (SDZG) with 64 employees and a $14 million budget. He led SDZG’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign, raising $530 million.
Mark serves on the boards of Certified Fundraising Executives International, the League of California Community Foundations, the San Diego Center for Regional Policy and Innovation, and the San Diego Symphony Foundation.

She brings 30 years of passion for nonprofit organizations, focusing on strategies and fundraising plans that leverage an organization’s strengths and build a shared understanding of its mission for long-term success.

Cassie received her PhD in teaching and learning with an emphasis in administration from the University of Southern California and her BA in biology from California State University, Northridge.
Kirsten Farrell is the executive director of the Goodman Center, which teaches communications and marketing professionals how to have more impact and reach more people. She publishes the monthly newsletter Free Thinking and the blog Do Good Better, a Goodman Center resource that shares tools and guidance for public service professionals to connect and connect with their audiences.
