Programming was originally (around 1940) a term that referred to the manual operation of punched cards for machines such as the ENIAC. In the past, this mundane, non-intellectual job of programming computers often fell to women, while the more cerebral work of deciding what the machine should do fell to men.

The (ISC)² organization offers up to 10 scholarships per year for women in cybersecurity-related majors. Academic performance, financial need and proven commitment to the cybersecurity industry are key evaluation criteria.

Michigan women studying technical subjects at the University of Michigan are eligible for this funding program. Applicants must be US citizens and have a minimum GPA of 2.75.
Technically oriented high school students in grades 9-12 are eligible for this funding opportunity. Applications are open to women, [and non-binary and gender non-conforming] candidates. Regular rewards vary in value.
