The University of Houston extends any eligible waivers and exemptions to students. The University reserves the right to evaluate each individual waiver and exception for compliance with existing regulations and will determine any decision on the merits of this review.
All students applying for exemption must submit any application accompanied by supporting documents at least from the Official Census Date of the semester/term in which they are currently enrolled. This is usually the 12th day of classes in a regular term/semester and the 4th day of classes in a shorter term/session. Exemption will not be granted for previous semesters/terms.

If you qualify for financial aid at the University of Houston, your financial aid package may include a work-study award*. The work study program is open to students who demonstrate financial need, and most students can work 12 to 20 hours per week during the academic year. This award provides an opportunity to find and apply for a College of Work-Study (CWS) job through the Cougar Pathway in University Career Services.
*Any scholarship is considered a financial resource and must be considered when building a student’s award package. The amount of student aid cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance. The cost of attendance (COA) is the estimated cost for a regular student to attend the University of Houston. Your COA includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation and personal expenses. University of Houston awards are subject to change based on the student’s award package and the student’s COA.
Education loans come from a variety of sources. The federal government, for example, sponsors several loan programs that offer the lowest interest rates on the market and other beneficial features. Other loan options, such as private bank loans, are available to high-income students who do not qualify for federal debt. Even the Dean of Students office itself offers short-term emergency loans to current students.
